Origin Story…
Side One YYZ was a leap of faith. In 2015, after Calgary was up and running, Rob spoke with Martin, our Vancouver singer, about expanding into Ontario. Martin hails from Mississauga and has contacts in the Toronto area from his original band days. First on board was John Owens, the drummer from Martin’s old band Outmatch (Martin will never forgive us, but PLEASE do a deep dive on Outmatch here… oh to be 2007 again!! hahaha).
Next was Ben Miller, who had been recommended by so many of Rob’s Toronto friends that we had to check him out. It turns out Rob’s buddies have good taste, as he quickly stepped into the role of band leader. Ben helped fill out the rest of the team, and it was clear from the very first rehearsal that Toronto had a talent overload. As the hub of so much touring and opportunity for musicians, the city boasts an incredible rotation of front people.
