Do you guys have an album?

After playing a full night of live music at a wedding in Vancouver, a corporate event in Calgary, a fundraiser in Toronto, or a backyard party in Seattle, we’re often asked where people can buy our album which is funny because we’ve just played 3 hours of other people’s music. That said, I totally understand the real sentiment that drives people to ask this. There is something about musicians playing their own music that people find incredibly impressive and combine that with just having an incredible night with a rocking band, they want more. We get it!

“I love Taylor Swift…..AND did you know that she writes her own music???”

Believe it or not, performing your own music is only a fairly recent phenomenon. Try to think of all of the great Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, or Elvis originals?? You might be hard pressed. Now of course, there were always exceptions to the rule…..Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, Buddy Holly, Sam Cooke, Hank Williams, and Robert Johnson although, the latter may have only gotten a co-writer with his writing partner 😈 and of course after Bob Dylan and The Beatles took off, it became the expectation that you would write your own music. However, most popular original music throughout the years was generally written by professional songwriters and then performed by professional musicians; famously the Tin Pan Alley or Brill Building writers back in the 1930s-1960s or today’s pop hits by writers like The Neptunes, Jack Antonoff or Max Martin.

Side One is kind of a different animal from the afore mentioned Frank Sinatra in that although we are both singing other people’s music, Frank’s personal artistry lies in his ability to make all of his songs sound like “Frank Sinatra Music” whereas Side One’s goal is to try to recreate the original performer’s sound. Although you should know that one of Side One’s little secrets is that it’s made up of some incredible original artists in their own right!

With the Covid-19 pandemic in its current full swing, we thought it would be a great idea to call attention to some of the incredible talents within our organization and give the public a chance to support our musicians while our weddings, corporate events, and live music in general are currently on hold. For you spotify and apple music users, you can check out these playlists featuring a bunch of our musicians and techs original bands and sample some of the tunes:
